Economic development and growth are impacted by land use and transportation infrastructure. Over the past 50 years, Northeast Ohio has expanded our land use footprint, despite stagnant population growth. People tend to live farther from their place of employment. While road and highway investment has been maintained, the same level of investment has not occurred for public transportation. Populations that cannot or do not drive therefore have reduced access to jobs. Workforce access is a critical component to economic growth and development. It will take a combination of land use and transportation changes to reconnect employers and employees.
